Landmarks

One of the main landmarks in Valladolid is the Calderón Theatre in Angustias Street. Its admirable facade is even more beautiful at night. The Cavalry Academy (Zorrilla Square) has another remarkable facade.

In The Palace of Pimentel in San Pablo Square you can view the beautiful window from where according to tradition the prince was taken out to be christened at San Pablo Church. This church is very possibly the most photographed sight in town. It is an emblematic landmark with an spectacular facade. Inside there is an sculpture of a lied Christ by Gregorio Fernández as well as other works by the same artists. In the same square you can find The Royal Palace, today a militar headquarter, with a beautiful Renaissance parade ground and imperial stairs.

The Cathedral in Cardenal Street is surprising not only from the outside but also from the inside, where one can admire the main altarpiece. One of the main town symbols is the church Nuestra Señora de La Antigua with its beatiful four-level tower and a portico. The Church of Santiago, centrally located in the street with the same name, is one of the oldest churches in Valladolid.

Monasterio de San Benito One of the most admired monasteries in Valladolid is San Benito La Real, a magnificent construction with a great portico and a beautiful Renaissance grille which divides the temple in two. In Las Huelgas Reales (Ramón y Cajal St.), another important monastery, you can see an alabaster tomb and sculptures by Gregorio Fernández in a wonderful altarpiece, The Convent of Santa Clara is the oldest abbey in the town. Inside you can contemplate a beautiful main altarpiece and several tombs. Only open in Easter.
